We are descendants of Johann Gottlieb Veldsman & Martha van de Kaap

Our Veldsman family is descended from Johann Gottlieb Veld(s)man

We undertook 5 DNA tests and have 10 DNA matches to the descendants of Johann Gottlieb Veld(s)man and Martha van de Kaap.

Update as of 17 March 2024:

We can now confirm that we are descendants of Johann Gottlieb Veld(s)man and his wife Martha van de Kaap.
4 family members did the following dna tests which includes:
Walter Mark Veldsman (that's me) - Y-DNA (FTDNA) & Autosomal DNA (Ancestry).
Desiree Veldsman (my sister) - Autosomal DNA (Ancestry).
Debra Veldsman (my sister) - Autosomal DNA (Ancestry)
Wade Veldsman (Desiree's son) - Autosomal DNA (Ancestry)

Our results are available on:

Ancestry.co.uk - the tree is open and available to view by the public.
Myheritage and our tree is also accessible here
Gedmatch
FTDNA (Family Tree DNA website
Wikitree - I have included some information here, but need to add much more details in the near future.

The table below shows our DNA matches to Johann Gottlieb Veld(s)man's descendants.
The arrows below show which branches our matches are from ie all Johann Gottlieb Veldsman's children.
We have many more DNA matches to this family, as of 17 March 2024 I am exploring which branches the remaining DNA matches belong to. Unfortunately many DNA testers test for ethnicity purposes and they dont have family trees so it is hard to work out which branches of Johann Gottlieb Veldsman they belong to.
Suffice to say, we are happy that the 10 DNA matches is sufficient proof to confirm we are descendants of Johann Gottlieb Veldsman.

The following information and images have been found on the National Archives of the Netherlands 20 March 2024.
The image below is not of the Kattendijke the ship Godlieb Veltman from Peterskroon worked on from
24 Oct 1752 - 12 Dec 1775. He became a free citizen at the end of his time on the ship. I will see if I can find a picture of the ship.

Here is a copy of the actual page in the Ships Register giving details of Godlieb Veltman from Peterskroon a soldier. Perhaps we should all change his name from what we had in our family trees from Johann Gottlieb Veldsman to what's actually in his record below unless that is inaccurately reported. I will follow up to see if I can find his military record if it still exists.

I have added some more information on the German Veldman families in the early Cape below

All the Veldsman’s, Veldtman’s, Feldmann’s lived in the Swellendam area between 1750’s to late 1890’s.
